The Forest Biodiversity Programme METSO 2008–2016 aims to halt the
ongoing decline in the biodiversity of forest habitats and species, and
establish stable favourable trends in Southern Finland’s forest
ecosystems. The objective of the programme is to ensure that Finnish
forests will continue to provide suitable habitats for endangered and
declining species.
The METSO Programme covers both private and
state-owned lands. It is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of
the Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Finnish
Environment Institute and the Forest Development Centre Tapio.
